Dr. Dhafer Kamal
Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, Bahrain


Dr. Dhafer Kamal is a Consultant and Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at the Bahrain Defense Force Royal Medical Services and an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain. He is the President of the Bahrain Vascular Association and the immediate past President of the Gulf Vascular Society.

Dr. Kamal is the ATLS Course Director in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He has several scientific publications to his credit and is a reviewer for Annals of Vascular Surgery and the Annals of Vascular Diseases.

Dr. Kamal graduated from the Arabian Gulf University and successfully completed his residency in General Surgery at McGill University, followed by a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the University of British Columbia. He is Board Certified in General Surgery as well as in Vascular Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.

After completion of his training, Dr. Kamal re- joined the Bahrain Defense Force Royal Medical Services Hospital and started the vascular surgery service. Shortly thereafter he established an Endo-Vascular program. His achievements at the level of the Kingdom of Bahrain include:
  • First Elective Endo-Vascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
  • First Emergency EVAR for Ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
  • First Endo-Vascular Repair of Traumatic Thoracic Aortic Rupture
  • First Endo-Vascular Repair of Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm
  • The first to perform a hybrid procedures (open combined with endovascular) for critical limb ischemia
  • The first to perform a hybrid procedures for the treatment of deep venous thrombosis and occlusions
  • The first to start Endo-Venous LASER Ablation (EVLA) for varicose veins and chronic venous insufficienc
