Psychiatric manifestations are common in many neurological, endocrine, and systemic diseases, and may even precede the physical manifestations. Hence, it is sometimes difficult to disentangle primary psychiatric disorders from psychiatric manifestations due to a medical condition. Psychiatrists need to be able to recognize an underlying medical condition when the patient presents with psychiatric symptoms, and collaborate with other care providers to establish an adequate treatment plan.
