Thomas Midgley BSc, RD, PGDip, CBT.
Company Director at The Body Image Treatment Clinic, London.
Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapist & Highly Specialised Eating Disorder Dietitian.
Over the last 15 years Thomas has worked as a clinician specialising in the field of Eating Disorders alongside its more prominent co-morbidities such as Personality Disorders and Complex Trauma. During this time, he has held positions with lead roles in service development for both NHS and Private Eating Disorder Services.
Thomas has a particular interest in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) which was sparked in 2010 while exploring a particular sub-group of patients who responded poorly to CBT for Eating Disorders. Over the years he has found it a particularly rewarding and effective component of treatment especially for the most severe end of the psychiatric spectrum.
Thomas has worked as a psychotherapist and dietitian in a wide variety of areas of medicine and mental health. Since 2005 Thomas has worked almost exclusively in the field of eating disorders with both adolescents and adults. He continues to work with both inpatient and outpatient services treating the whole spectrum of severity and co-morbidities common in this field. Alongside anorexia, bulimia and binge eating issues co-morbidities typically include: personality disorders, self-harm, OCD, body image and dysmorphia, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma based symptoms, psychotic features, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders and obesity.
