Dear Colleagues & Researchers,

On behalf of the Department of Anesthesiology, ICU, and Perioperative Medicine at Hamad Medical Corporation, the Abstracts and Poster Committee invites you to submit an abstract for the upcoming Qatar Conference on Airway Management in Special Circumstances.

We request submissions showcasing cases, initiatives, and/or evaluation strategies that characterize the conference theme and address the many changes and challenges faced in evaluating and managing the difficult airway.

The abstracts might include topics related to: Airway Management, Ventilation, Respiration, ECMO for the Airway, Imaging for Difficult A/W, US of Airway Management, or any other related issues.

The deadline for abstract submission is 1st April 2022. The selected abstracts will be published in a special volume of the Qatar Medical Journal and the best three abstracts will win a special prize in addition to participating in an oral talk during the conference. The abstracts will also be presented electronically during the conference.

Abstract Preparation Instructions for Authors

Abstracts that cover the following titles: Airway Management, Ventilation, Respiration, ECMO for the Airway, Imaging for Difficult A/W, US of Airway Management should comply with the following guidance.

The abstract submission system will accept a one-page Word document or PDF to be sent. This should be formatted in Arial font size 11, with all the page margins set to 2cm. Any tables / figures included must be within this one-page limit. The total word count must not exceed 500 words or one A4 page in length (whichever is shorter). The page limit must include title, authors, statement of funding if applicable and references (limited to three).

Please note the language of the conference is English. All abstracts must be submitted in English.


Format

  • The name of the submitted files should be in the following format: corresponding author’s last name and conference acronym (Qatar Airway Conference or QAC). This name will make it easier to organize/identify/retrieve all the received files.
  • Abstract title maximum word count is 15.
  • All authors’ initials, last names and the place where the work was carried out should be listed.
  • The text of the abstract should not contain headings, but should follow the general progression through background, methods, results and conclusions. The methods should include a statement of ethics.
  • Case reports should follow the introduction, case or cases, discussion and learning points in the same way. A case report should end (before the references) with a statement about the consent given by the patient.
  • Use a blank line to separate paragraphs.
  • One table or figure is permitted.
  • If a figure is used, ensure that a figure caption is provided within the abstract document. The figure must be accommodated within the one-page limit.
  • References must be listed and cited as specified by the Qatar Medical Journal. They should be superscript1 and post any applicable punctuation, in the style of the QMJ.2 (click here for more details)

  • No more than three references should be included. If a reference has more than 6 authors, then list the names of first 3 authors followed by et al.
  • The shortened form of the journal title should be used.
  • Please acknowledge any source of funding for your study at the end of the abstract.
