
Dr. Samar ElFeky
Regional Officer for Community-Based Initiatives and Health of Older People

Dr. Samar ElFeky is currently the Regional focal point for Community-based Initiatives and Health of Older Population. Dr. Samar is a Medical Doctor qualified in Public Health from Liverpool University, Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health from Cairo University and Health System Research from Johns Hopkins University, USA.
Dr ElFeky has working experience in WHO/EMRO in promoting health for older people, integrating WHO Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE), and Decade for Healthy Aging. Moreover, participating actively in promoting and implementation of healthy settings (healthy cities, Age-friendly cities, healthy schools, healthy workplaces, healthy villages and healthy markets), research, Primary and Community Health Care. Dr ElFeky participated in introducing, monitoring and evaluation of Healthy Cities Programme in countries of the Region including Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and UAE. In addition, Dr ElFeky participated in implementing Urban Health Equity Assessment and Response Tool (Urban HEART) in Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan and Tunisia. Dr ElFeky participated also in many capacity building activities related to bioethics, research methodology, and implementation research. Dr ElFeky has many publications in the field of home health care for elderly, research, Healthy Cities, planning effective communication strategies, community health workers, community-based disaster risk reduction, WHO collaborating centres, Bioethics, and mapping health research institutions and bibliometric analysis of countries of eastern Mediterranean Region.
