Prof. Marco A. Marcus
Chairman, Department of Anesthesiology, ICU and Perioperative Medicine, HMC
Professor Marco A.E. Marcus received his training in the Netherlands and Belgium and is the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, ICU and Perioperative Medicine at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Professor at Weill-Cornell Medical College. Prior to joining HMC, Professor Marcus was employed as an anesthesiologists and clinical investigator at KU Leuven and the University of Münster, Germany. Here, he led the sections for Obstetrics and Gynecology Anestehsia and Neuro-anesthesia. In Maastricht, where he worked from 2001-2013, he was the Professor for Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, and responsible for all the university center’s postgraduate training.
Professor Marcus’ clinical and research interest focus on the topics of education, the transition of acute into chronic pain, pharmacokinetics, new materials and blood management. Professor Marcus has been involved in the development of several national clinical guidelines and is the winner of several awards, including the August Bier Price of the German Society of Anaesthesiology (DGAI). He mentored more than 15 Ph.D. students and has authored numerous book chapters,including more than 170 cited articles, and numerous non-cited publications. Prof. Marcus is an active conference and symposium guest speaker. He serves as a board member of several societies and has also served as a committee member for the EBA/EAA and ESA, since 1996.
