Professor Stephen Hodges Thomas trained in Emergency Medicine in the University of North Carolina. Prof. Thomas completed a flight physician fellowship in North Carolina. He did graduate studies at Harvard, where he obtained a Master's in quantitative methods (biostatistics). He has two decades of experience in Emergency Medical Services, in the air medical transport field. He rose to the position of Associate Professor of Surgery and Academic Affairs Director in the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School Department of Emergency Medicine (where he spent 16 years), before moving to become the first endowed Professor and Chairman of the newly formed Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Oklahoma. After five years in Oklahoma, he moved to Qatar.
