Many organizations have invested in efforts to improve safety and
quality yet patients regularly continue to experience harm. Might it be
that we do not fully understand the problem we are trying to fix?
Improvement requires the correct diagnosis of the problem and the
development of related aims. During this session, participants will
learn how to use several tools that will help them diagnose quality and
safety in their respective organizations and set aims for improvement.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Describe the current diagnostic approach of their organization
Discuss the use of the data gained from diagnostic tools to prevent, detect, and mitigate harm to patients
Appraise the usefulness of the presented diagnostic tools to improve the safety and quality of their organization over time
