DOHA, 12 February, 2016: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) have announced the joint hosting of the fourth Middle East Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare (ME Forum), the leading healthcare quality improvement conference in the region.

Led by HMC’s Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute (HHQI), the annual conference will be held from 13 –15 May 2016 at Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha. The conference reinforces the continued partnership between HMC and IHI, a not-for-profit organization that is a leading innovator in health and healthcare improvement worldwide.

This year’s conference theme centers on a transformative approach to improving healthcare delivery by inspiring innovation. The conference will feature keynote lectures and seminars from local, regional and global health experts, as well a series of intensive pre-conference workshops.

Topics covered in the wide-ranging program will highlight the science behind improvement, the continuing transformation of clinical interventions and clinical systems, how healthcare leaders can drive improvements in their teams and organizations, and ways in which healthcare workers can enhance engagement with patients.

Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari the Minister of Public Health for Qatar expressed that the ME Forum had become a mainstay on the event calendar and a popular professional development opportunity with healthcare industry workers in both Qatar and the wider region.

Professor Adeel Butt, ME Forum Chair, HMC Chief Quality Officer and HHQI Director, said “The Middle East Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare is an important conference for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals who use the event as a chance to learn new quality improvement methodologies, exchange ideas with their peers and to showcase their own improvement initiatives.”
“HMC values its strategic partnership with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in this forum and their continued collaboration on healthcare improvement advice and support,” he added.

IHI President and CEO, Derek Feeley, will return to Doha for the 2016 forum. He has attended in previous years saying that Qatar continues to excel in the transformation of its public healthcare provision.
“IHI is excited to once again be partnering with Hamad Medical Corporation for the 2016 Middle East Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare. This is one of the leading healthcare improvement events in the Middle East region, and lays a platform for encouraging positive change and progress in HMC hospitals and clinics, as well as other public and private healthcare facilities in Qatar and beyond,” said Feeley.

Forum Co-Chair, HMC Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Medical Education Director, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Khal, said that the strong need to continually improve the care we provide has meant that participating in quality and safety forums is an essential local platform for learning improvement science.

“As the public and private healthcare providers in Qatar continue to grow and mature, so too does the need to ensure that those working in the industry continue to develop their understanding of quality improvement and patients' safety and learn new tools on how to continuously review the care they provide and work on improving it," said Dr. Al-Khal.

The conference will include a poster exhibition highlighting successful quality and safety improvement initiatives, a knowledge area that allows delegates to meet and engage with subject matter experts, and a number of opportunities for participants to converse on healthcare improvement topics.

Doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals attending the Middle East Forum are eligible to earn continuing healthcare education points.
