Carolyn Volker
Assistant Executive Director, Patient Flow, Hamad Medical Corporation
Ms. Carolyn Volker is Assistant Executive Director for Patient Flow at Hamad Medical Corporation and works across nine HMC healthcare facilities as a key as a member of the corporate Operations Performance and Patient Flow Team.
Carolyn has been leading on patient flow programs across emergency, elective and cancer care in several organizations and is especially passionate about improving clinical operations, co-ordination and bed management, working with key staff to implement solutions to ensure a better experience and journey for patients.
Ms. Volker has held a number of senior nursing and managerial roles, in the UK and South Africa and now in Qatar. She has completed training in general nursing and midwifery (honors), operating theater nursing (with honors), BSc nursing studies (first class honors) and a master’s of business administration. She has received the National Florence Nightingale Award awarded by the South African Nurses Association and was one of the youngest directors of nursing at the age of 26. In addition to successful nursing career Ms. Volker has had a successful management career in the UK with executive director posts in emergency care, operations, performance and modernization.
Ms. Volker brings a wealth of senior nursing and managerial experience to her role and believes that the combination of both nursing and management have enabled her to develop an enhanced understanding of systems and processes in healthcare as well as the ability to put these into operational practice. Making change happen with successful outcomes for patients is what motivates Carolyn.
