Please note the following important information about our medical internship program:
  • Admission is on a competitive basis; the number of applicants routinely exceeds the number of seats available and meeting the minimum eligibility criteria to apply does not guarantee admission.  In cases where competitive selection needs to be made, clinical exam scores and English language proficiency exam scores will be used as the primary selection criteria.
  • Internship is an unpaid position (except for Qatari nationals).
  • The Application Submission Period and Program Start Date (for the Spring intake) has been amended in the tables below; please carefully note the changes.


Hamad Medical Corporation Medical Internship Program​

The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) Medical Internship Program is a thirteen block (one-year), hands-on training program for new medical school graduates, to provide exposure to several major medical specialties. Intended as a bridge between medical school and residency training, the program entails four mandatory rotations (Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynecology) and two elective rotations. 

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive a Certificate of Completion of Medical Internship. 

The program has two intakes per year, January and July. The application intake will remain open year-round with selected candidates assigned to begin their program according to their application submission date, as below.

Important: Candidates selected to join the Medical Internship Program MUST be physically present in Qatar in the month preceding the Program Start Date, to undergo the required onboarding and orientation activities (e.g. 1 to 31 December for January intake, and 1 to 30 June for the July intake). In addition, interns will not be permitted to take leave within the first three (3) months of joining the program (e.g.1 January to 31 March for the January intake, and 1 July to 30 September for the July intake). If you are unable to be physically present in Qatar during that period, your acceptance will be deferred to the next intake, subject to space being available.

Individuals selected to join the HMC Medical Internship Program will not pay a fee to join the program. Non-Qataris will join the medical internship program as non-employees and will not be paid any remuneration, nor will they be sponsored by HMC. Qataris will be hired as employees and provided with remuneration (salary and benefits to be confirmed upon request).

Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible to apply for our medical internship program, applicants must meet all of the following requirements

  1. Graduated within the past five years (2020 or more recently) from a medical school listed on the register of the World Directory of Medical Schools (https://www.wdoms.org/). Graduation date is calculated based on the final medical school exam dates.

    Final year medical students are eligible to apply provided they will graduate prior to the expected medical internship joining date.

  2. Hold Qatari citizenship, GCC citizenship, or a valid Qatar residency permit (first degree family sponsorship only).

  3. Met the minimum listed score in any one of the following required clinical examinations:
