Program Overview
The fellowship program is an opportunity for a fully trained urologist, who has completed medical school, internship and residency training, and is otherwise qualified to practice as a urologist. Such an individual may be interested in pursuing further training in a subspecialty field within urology in order to gain special expertise above and beyond that of a general urologist.
The modern management of male reproductive and sexual health requires an in-depth knowledge not only of surgery but also of imaging, biopsy techniques, pathology, endocrinology, radiology and basic sciences. The Andrology & Infertility fellowship is designed to enhance the basic knowledge of the management of male sexual health and reproductive health acquired by a urology trainee.
The existence of the fellowship is to augment and support the Department of Urology at Hamad Medical Corporation and to advance the field of sexual health and infertility consistent with the goals of our institute.

Goals and Objectives
The aim of this fellowship is to provide professional experience in Andrology and Men’s health with Post Graduate knowledge to understand and study the causes of male infertility, erectile function and dysfunction and biological causes of aging in men.
The andrology & infertility fellowship will enable the fellow to acquire an advanced body of knowledge and level of skill in the management of reproductive and sexual health diseases in order to assume a leadership role in teaching and research in the field. This will include:
1. Understand the classification and evaluation of male infertility, sexual dysfunction and chronic pelvic pain in men.
2. Knowledge of the indications, techniques, and complications of various diagnostic modalities performed for the evaluation of male sexual and reproduction function.
3. Understand the basic techniques of testicular biopsy, evaluation and tissue processing, recognition of basic testicular pathology, and knowledge of pathologic prognostic factors.
4. Knowledge of the indications, techniques, and complications of various sperm retrieval modalities performed for patients before assisted reproduction.
5. The ability to counsel patients on treatment options for therapy for erectile dysfunction and reproductive health abnormalities.
6. Evaluation of erectile and reproductive dysfunction and chronic pelvic pain in an office based setting.
7. Understand the indications, complications, techniques, and results of medical and surgical treatments of sexual dysfunction and male infertility treatments.
8. Interpretation of laboratory results for andrology, infertility and pelvic pain patients.
In addition, individuals completing this training program will be able to:
1. Evaluate the clinical literature on erectile dysfunction and reproductive health in a critical fashion and make contributions to the field.
2. Organize a multidisciplinary approach to erectile dysfunction and male infertility care.
3. Able to set up an andrology, infertility and pelvic pain clinic.
4. Perform necessary procedures.
5. Basic knowledge of Assisted Reproductive Techniques.

Personnel and facilities
1. Program Director/s:
A Program Director must be a full-time faculty member. He will monitor the program contents, and ensure a high standard training process. The program director of the andrology and male infertility fellowship is Dr. Ahmad Majzoub.
2. Teaching Staff:
Fellows will have the chance to learn from:
- Dedicated faculty specialized in Andrology and Infertility will supervise fellows in their rotations, providing in-depth knowledge and skills in this field of urology.
- Regular visits of distinguished guests from outstanding institutes who will shed the light on various state of the art treatment modalities and surgical techniques.
3. Facilities:
- Andrology clinics: there are two Andrology clinics per day that cater for patients with various sexual These clinics are fully operational and have different diagnostic equipment such are ultrasound machine, regi scan, vaccum erection devices and intracorporeal injections.
- Infertility Suite: This suite has daily clinics and a Lab that performs different semen analysis techniques as well as tests of advanced sperm function. An ultrasound machine is also available in the clinic for performance of transrectal and scrotal ultrasound.
- IVF unit: Fellows will attend the IVF unit to perform various sperm retrieval techniques prior to ART. The unit is equipped with a surgical microscope.
- Pelvic pain Unit: HMC is the only institute in the region to offer dedicated multidisciplinary service for patients with chronic pelvic pain syndrome and chronic orchialgia. The unit applies the UPOINT phenotype classification system and performs various procedures such as trigger point injections, pelvic myofascial release therapy, pelvic low intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy and microsurgical spermatic cord denervation.
