Program Overview
The Anesthesia Residency Program at Medical Education – Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is a structured, competency-based postgraduate training program designed to equip physicians with the comprehensive knowledge, technical skills, and clinical judgment necessary to practice as independent anesthesiologists. The program is accredited by the Arab Board of Health Specializations and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I) and adheres to international standards in medical education and patient safety. It spans several years of progressive training, covering a broad range of anesthetic subspecialties, including general surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics, cardiac, neuroanesthesia, pain medicine and critical care.
Residents rotate through multiple HMC hospitals and affiliated sites, gaining hands-on experience under the supervision of experienced faculty. The program places a strong emphasis on academic development through regular teaching sessions, simulation training, research activities, and participation in quality improvement initiatives. By the end of the program, graduates are well-prepared for board examinations and capable of delivering high-quality, evidence-based anesthesia care in diverse healthcare settings.

Clinical Training and Key Rotations
Year 1: Internal Medicine, General Surgery, General Pediatric, Emergency Medicine, , Infectious Disease, Cardiology, SICU, MICU, Anesthesia.
Year 2: Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU), General Surgery, Anesthesia Basics, Orthopedic, Pain Medicine, Day Care Unit, Urology.
Year 3: Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Obstetric Anesthesia, Pediatric Anesthesia, Orthopedic, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Sedation, Pain Medicine, Neurosurgery.
Year 4: Cardiac Anesthesia, SICU, Pediatric Anesthesia, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Obstetric Anesthesia, Pain Medicine, Burn.
