Program Overview


Advanced General Adult Psychiatry Fellowship
program focuses on the mental health of the working age population (18-65). It is the largest specialty in psychiatry and covers a broad range of conditions and diagnoses. Trainees will spend time in general community and inpatient teams as well as having the opportunity to experience more specialist areas. The program offers opportunities for a wide range of clinical experience, together with access to resources to develop teaching, research, audit, management, and leadership skills. Trainees are offered a three-year program with clinical posts in a variety of settings. Each post will be six to twelve months long to ensure trainees feel embedded in their teams. Trainees have opportunities to gain experience in neuromodulation, rehabilitation, forensic psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, perinatal psychiatry, addiction psychiatry and ADHD. Throughout training, trainees will be actively involved in teaching, training and supervision of psychiatry residents and students from the College of Medicine, Qatar University. Trainees will have the opportunity to attend teaching and courses which are relevant to their needs. Research opportunities are also available for trainees. The program emphasizes research and scholarly activities, as residents are encouraged to participate in research projects, publish their findings, and present at national and international conferences. Clinical and educational supervision are provided by the individual advanced trainee’s consultant, with oversight by the program director.

Goals and Objectives

  • Comprehensive training and education in all aspects of Advanced General Adult Psychiatry.
  • Develop clinical competencies that enable management of patients with complex co-morbidities, treatment resistance, or rare conditions.
  • Upon completion of training, the trainee is expected to be a competent specialist applying medical knowledge, clinical skills, and professional attitudes in their provision of patient-centered care across the lifespan and in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.
