Program Overview
The Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship is a 3-year training program which is designed to provide exposure to all aspects of ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery. Only candidates who have successfully completed an ACGME-I accredited residency program in Ophthalmology and who had obtained medical license from Supreme Council of Health and Arab Board certification or its equivalent will be considered.
All learning activities take place on a contiguous campus of medical facilities and fellows are under the supervision of the same faculty in all locations. Operating theaters pre and post-operative care are located in Ambulatory Care Center.
Goals and Objectives
The goal of this fellowship is to provide training that facilitates the maturation of diagnostic and therapeutic clinical skills necessary to practice comprehensive ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery in accordance with the standards set forth by ACGME. This includes:
- learning medical knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, epidemiological, and social-behavioral sciences, and apply this knowledge to patient care.
- being familiar with the latest developments in oculoplastic surgery,
- understanding the biologic, metastatic behavior, and clinical presentation, evaluation, and management of tumors and disease (including trauma) in the orbit, eyelid, and conjunctiva, in both children and adults,
- understanding the pathophysiologic mechanisms, presentations, evaluation, and management of lacrimal disorders.
- understanding and managing the aesthetic nature of oculoplastic surgery and how it relates to the rest of the face and learning the aspects of the surgical procedures.
- participating in all activities that help facilitate the development of this medical knowledge including lectures, grand rounds, journal club, pathology slide review, national meeting presentation and attendance, and scholarly activity.
