Patient and Public Information

Introduction
Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) as an Academic Health System is committed to making sure you receive the best care always. We do this by making sure that clinical care, education and research is the best it can be so we can provide the best care to our patients. This leaflet will explain a little about research at HMC.

What is research?
Research is a way of finding out new information about health and illnesses. Researchers look at how a new treatment not currently available in HMC can work better than the current treatment we offer. In this way, we can make sure that you are getting the best care and treatment.

Why is research important?
Research helps us understand how to prevent illness and how to develop new or better treatments for people when they are ill. It can also help us find out how people feel about their health and illnesses and how their illness affects their life and family. We can use this information to develop better ways to care for our patients.

You may be asked to participate in research. All research is voluntary and you have the right to say no which will not affect your treatment. All research at Hamad Medical Corporation is overseen by a group of experts who makes sure the research is safe and benefits our patients. Research is undertaken under strict Supreme Council of Health and HMC regulations. If, at any time you wish to withdraw from a study you may do so and this will not affect your clinical care.

Where can I get more information?
