Vision
The Qatar Metabolic Institute (QMI) within the Academic Health System (AHS) integrates clinical, educational and research efforts targeting metabolic disorders like diabetes and obesity. QMI unites healthcare professionals – physicians, nurses, educators, dieticians, allied health experts and researchers to collectively address interconnected metabolic conditions. In addition, QMI had the mandate to facilitate development and implementation of a national diabetes strategy.
Mission
To advance the understanding, prevention, and treatment of diabetes, obesity and metabolic diseases through cutting-edge research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and person-centred care, while fostering education and community engagement.
Research area of the Institute
- QMI aims to understand the complex interplay between genetics, lifestyle, and environment in the development of metabolic diseases.
- QMI aims to take a multi-disciplinary, patient and public centred approach to develop clinical, educational and research-based programs and initiatives aimed at prevention, treatment and management of diabetes and obesity.
- QMI conducts research across multiple departments and at the Qatar Diabetes Research Center (QDRC).
