The Improvement Leadership (IL) Program is co-designed by the Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute (HHQI) and the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) to support leaders to drive healthcare improvements in quality and safety and to lead organizational and system transformation. The IL Cohort 05was launched on February 22, 2023 with 30 participants. The participants were very engaged and enthusiastic, and they provided high levels of group participation throughout the half day in-person session. There was widespread representation from Medical Consultants, Nursing, Quality, allied healthcare, and support services.
The session was delivered by local HHQI faculty whereas international speakers pre-recorded their talk to run virtually. Mr. Nasser Al Naimi, (Deputy CQO, Director of HHQI and Director CPESE) congratulated all the IL participants on their selection and motivated them to make a difference in the system.
Dr. Abdullah Al Ansari delivered the keynote on the topic of Leadership engagement to quality improvement. His session was extremely interactive and engaging.
The IL focuses on four main knowledge domains:
- Improvement science and innovation (The system of profound knowledge, the model for improvement, integrating innovation, design and improvement etc.)
- Learning systems (Thinking traps, red bead simulation, diffusion and spread, difficult conversations, staff wellbeing, human factors and psychology of change etc.)
- Safety & Reliability concepts (High Reliability Organizations (HRO), dashboards, scorecards and visual management, safety II, measurement and variation etc.)
- Leadership skills (High impact leadership, strategy and sensemaking, just culture, person-centered leadership, leadership behaviors, learning styles and systems, engaging across boundaries etc.)
HHQI continues to build capacity and capability across HMC, targeting all levels of professionals.
