Trauma Services
Hamad Trauma Center (HTC) is the sole provider of trauma care for adults in Qatar with a global impact via the WHO Collaborating Center and the Qatar Trauma Institute [currently under development]. As the sole provider of adult trauma services for the country, HTC plays a central role in the national healthcare system's emergency response and mass casualty preparedness.
Hamad Trauma Center is located at the Hamad General Hospital (HGH). It is a Level 1 Trauma Center accredited by Accreditation Canada, operating 24/7 with highly specialized teams fully qualified to manage the most complex injuries . The center includes a 12-bay Trauma Resuscitation Unit, operating theaters with hybrid rooms, a 19-bed Trauma Intensive Care Unit, a 7-bed Trauma High-Dependency Unit and a Trauma Ward.
HTC is part the hospital element of the National Trauma System, which includes the Ambulance Service, which ensures rapid response and coordinated pre-hospital care across Qatar. Ambulance Service staff are trained in trauma life support and equipped with advanced technologies to stabilize patients at the scene and during transport to hospital. The National Trauma System also include a state-of-the-art Qatar Rehabilitation that oversees post-hospital care and reintegration of the injured patients into society, completing a full circle of care.
The scope of HTC expands far beyond direct patient care. HTC also includes the Qatar National Trauma Registry [QNTR] that collects information on all injured patients in Qatar. The QNTR improves patient outcomes by monitoring trends, data sharing with authorities and international joint programs such the American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Improvement Program, supporting research, and guiding quality improvement initiatives. HTC also has teams fully dedicated to Injury prevention, medical and public education and advanced trauma research.
Through its integrated trauma services, expert teams, and continuous commitment to improvement, HTC ensures that patients across Qatar have access to the highest standards of trauma care when it is needed most, as well as education and training, innovation and research.
The designation of the Hamad Trauma Center as the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center on Trauma Systems is a testament to the excellence of HMC in trauma. This prestigious recognition underscores the Center’s commitment to advancing trauma research, education, and clinical excellence, not only in Qatar but across the region and beyond.
International Accreditation of Quality of Care
Hamad Trauma Center stands as the cornerstone of Qatar’s National Trauma System and since 2014, the system is accredited (Trauma Distinction) by Accreditation Canada International.
