Community partnerships play a vital role in advancing Person-Centered Care (PCC) initiatives. By working together with the community, Heart Hospital (HH) aims to integrate the PCC principles with the perspectives, preferences, and needs of their patients.
As a result, HH maintains its collaboration with the Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan) and Center for Indian Community (CIC), by launching the “Prepare Your Heart for Ramadan.” This collaborative initiative aims to raise awareness about cardiovascular health, promote healthy lifestyle choices, and educate individuals on the proper use of medication during the Holy Month of Ramadan, particularly focusing on the vulnerable populations of the elderly and laborers.
The event, which took place as a series of sessions between 20th February to 1st March 2024, was designed to cater to the specific needs and concerns of the target demographic, with presentations delivered in Arabic and Urdu languages by a team comprising of cardiologists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists.
The interactive nature of the sessions encouraged attendees to actively engage with the presenters through questions and answers. To further incentivize participation, quizzes with prizes were offered at the end of each presentation, adding an element of fun and excitement to the educational sessions. Moreover, as part of the campaign, comprehensive health checkups and vital sign measurements were provided to all participants, and those requiring further medical attention received cardiology consultations.
The success of the “Prepare Your Heart for Ramadan” campaign highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing community health issues. The positive response from participants has prompted the administration to continue and expand such initiatives with other community institutions.
