Nursing acts as the backbone of the hospital, caring for Patients across all departments and constantly striving towards building the best possible nursing practice environment. NCCCR nurses work in many different roles. Highly qualified, they all work together to provide comprehensive services to cancer patients and their families. We have nurses skilled in nursing Bone Marrow Transplant Patients, Patients undergoing chemotherapy, Patients recovering from procedures and Patients needing palliative care. No matter what areas they cover, all our nurses are skilled, competent and compassionate practitioners who are here to make Patients and families as comfortable as possible.
Despite the differences in their roles, their dedication to caring for the clinical, emotional, and progressive needs of NCCCR patients remains a shared goal. Our Clinical Nurse Specialists have expertise in specific areas to support patients with different types of cancer. They are trained to master’s level and help patients to navigate their care pathway, ensuring they have a full understanding of their condition and treatment options.
As a department, we have a shared governance management model, which gives a voice to our staff nurses in decisions regarding their professional practice and work environment. Our department has also taken the initiative in many quality improvement programs. One such program, nursing research, means that the department can look forward to answering clinical research questions in many areas of cancer screening, prevention and treatment.
