​On arrival at the hospital you should report to the Outpatient Department reception desk with your appointment card and health card. There are two different admission areas for men and women which are adjacent to each other. Before your appointment you may be asked questions relating to procedures or diagnostic investigations which may be required. Please do not hesitate to ask medical staff any questions you may have.

How do I prepare for my procedure?

To provide you with the best and safest care possible to ensure optimal results, special preparation may be required for some procedures. The amount and type of preparation needed may vary depending on whether the procedure is a diagnostic examination or a treatment procedure. Below you will find information about preparation for common medical procedures:

Preparation for laboratory tests

You will be given specific guidance at the time for any preparation required for laboratory tests. These instructions will vary depending on the type of laboratory test required.

Preparation for preventive medical examinations
 
Details of specific preparations will be provided on the day on a case by case basis as they will vary depending on your condition and tests required.

Preparation for dialysis

Preparation for CT scans
 
You will be advised how you should prepare for your CT scan on arrival. Preparation for the CT scan will vary depending on the type of CT scan required and your medical condition.

Preparation for MRI scans
 
It is important that all jewelry and metal accessories are removed before your MRI scan as these can interfere with the equipment. You must also inform the technician if you have a metal implant or if you are afraid of enclosed spaces. Please also ensure that you report to the department on time.

Preparation for gastroscopy
 
In preparation for gastroscopy you may be advised to take oral laxatives on previous nights. You should be nil by mouth from 12 midnight the previous night. In certain circumstances you may be asked not to take any medication before the procedure. It is important that you report to the department on time.

 Preparation for a mammography
 
You should inform the technician about your last menstrual period before the examination. If you are in any doubt, it will be necessary to perform a pregnancy test.

Preparation for chemotherapy
 
You will be provided with a protocol outlining your treatment. Preparation required will be dependent on whether you are an inpatient or day care unit patient and you will be informed accordingly on your arrival. You will also be provided with investigational test results, which should be explained to you by medical staff.
