Maureen Brown is the Assistant Executive Director of Nursing, for Midwifery at HMC. She is responsible for the provision of evidence-based midwifery education an investment that will improve women’s access to quality healthcare in the future. Maureen is a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Registered Midwife (RM). In the 1990s she moved into education after gaining a BSC (Hons) in Education (Midwifery) and began a career as a senior lecturer at Nottingham in the United Kingdom, where she completed her master's degree in women’s interdisciplinary studies at Warwick University. Following this she gained a position at Coventry University and in 2000 she was invited to take on a post as the Lead Midwife for Education, responsible for the quality of all midwifery programs within the establishment.

As an academic with over thirty years experience she has managed a number of professional groups and their portfolio of courses to include paramedics, operating department practice, children’s nursing and midwifery. She has extensive knowledge in developing curricula and her work as a reviewer with the Nursing and Midwifery Council has honed her skill set in assessing quality within education.

Maureen has a number of publications and has been a member on the editorial board of the British Journal of Midwifery. Maureen was instrumental in developing an applied research group looking at public health and following a number of successful tenders she became the Co-Director of the Centre for Children and Families Applied Research Centre at Coventry University. The focus of her work has been around women’s health issues in particular reviewing women’s birth choices, domestic violence and the use of technology in education. The use of technology in education continues to be an area of interest and in recent years she has led a team of midwives in the development of a series of apps that can be used for teaching purposes that are available internationally.
