The Occupational Therapy Department has been involved in the provision of mobility equipment since the establishment of the rehabilitation department at Rumailah Hospital.
The service aims to provide comprehensive services for persons with physical disability who need specialized seating and mobility assessments. Our team undertakes objective and systematic assessment of the seating and mobility needs of persons with disability. It provides and trains individuals in the use of appropriate equipment in order to facilitate mobility; prevent complications such as pain, pressure sores, contractures and aspiration pneumonia due to poor head position; maximize remaining physical function; and enhance psychological and social well-being.
Care for our patients is delivered by an interdisciplinary team of competent rehabilitation professionals who utilize their combined knowledge, skills and expertise to deliver patient-centered, compassionate care that meet international standards.
Our patients includes adults and children with permanent physical disabilities due to neurological conditions, musculoskeletal impairments, congenital abnormalities, developmental disabilities and age based infirmity and impairment. Most of those who need intervention require 24 hour postural management, especially the growing child, in order to prevent deformities and the needless impairments which could result from postural neglect. Such care would include equipment for seating, mobility, aids for standing and for positioning while sleeping.
