The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation service in Qatar was established in 1982 in Rumailah Hospital. The rapid increase in demand for medical rehabilitation services followed an increase in the number of people surviving traumatic injuries and long-term diseases over the years.
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department offers rehabilitation programs and comprehensive rehabilitation and medical management for individuals who have had a stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or who suffer from neurodegenerative diseases. Our vision is to be an internationally recognized world class center for physical medicine and rehabilitation providing healthcare excellence.
The department provides rehabilitation programs integrated with the continuum of care. We guide and facilitate the development of individuals to their fullest physical, psychological, social, vocational and educational potential in a manner consistent with their impairments, rehabilitation potential and environmental resources. The team is up-to-date on the latest advances in rehabilitation research and is committed to delivering high standards of care.
New services include:
- Early intervention rehabilitation
- Chemodenervation therapy (injections of botulinum toxin A for spasticity and pain-related spasms)
- Intrathecal baclofen refilling program (for patients who have implanted baclofen pumps)
