Trauma prevention education efforts are key areas of focus for the HMC Trauma System. Most traumatic injuries do not happen as a result of random events. Traumatic injuries happen in predictable ways, which means they can be prevented. Car seats, seat belts and airbags keep people safe on the road; helmets protect people’s heads from injury during work and play and storing bleach, detergents and cleaning solutions out of reach of children helps reduce childhood poisonings. Appropriate worker training and personal protective equipment decrease construction site falls from height incidents.
