Over the weekend, Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Al Wakra Hospital successfully replaced its existing paper patient clinical records system with a new electronic Clinical Information System (CIS).
Al Wakra Hospital is the fifth HMC hospital, and third this year, to go-live with CIS with this comprehensive system designed in collaboration with clinicians.
The transition from paper to electronic records will require staff to gather and enter additional information from patients and this may mean appointments could take a little longer than usual in the early stages of implementation.
However, to ensure patients’ experiences are as smooth as possible the Al Wakra CIS team has put a number of processes in place, but asked for patients’ understanding and co-operation during this transition period.
Mr. Wilson Ross, CEO of Al Wakra Hospital explained that his team and the hospital staff are looking forward to working with the new system and are excited about the implementation. “The CIS program will ensure that all clinical information on patients is available at the point of care. This will result in high-quality care and reduce clinical risk. CIS will streamline patient care and contribute to better overall outcomes, as such we are very excited for this important roll out.”
