His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, has officially opened Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Enaya Specialized Care Center in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Accompanying the prime minister were special guests, His Excellency Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani, the Minister of Public Health and Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari, Managing Director of HMC.
The ceremony marked the official opening of the recently expanded facility, which operates as a long-term care complex for patients who require round-the-clock monitoring and treatment from specialist nurses and doctors. The Enaya Specialized Care Center is the only one of its type in the country and one of the first in the Arab World.
Following the ribbon cutting, the government officials toured through the facility where they reviewed the amenities and met some of the patients and their family members.
“The focus of the Enaya Specialized Care Center is to provide an advanced care system for long-term patients with chronic illnesses and degenerative diseases that restrict their ability to care for themselves. To do this, we utilize a dedicated team of specialized professionals who not only provide excellent medical care, but also look to enhance the ability of our patients to function independently, to engage more with family and friends, and where possible, really help to bring a sense of normalcy into patient’s lives,” said Al Kuwari.
“Enaya Specialized Care Center is a shining example of the type of effective and compassionate care we have developed for our long-term patients, in a kind and nurturing medical environment,” added Al Kuwari.
One such patient is 16 year old Ali Al Qahtani, who has had cerebral palsy since birth. Following his recent move to Enaya, Ali’s mother, Mrs. Seta Masoud Al Hebabi, said: “Overall, I am very pleased with the care Ali is receiving here. The experience has been very good, including the quality of clinical care, the clarity of communication, the courtesy of doctors and nurses and the staff-patient relationships.” Young Ali and his brother were delighted to meet Their Excellencies, as were other patients at the facility.
Following the visit of the Enaya Specialized Care Center, the ministers were invited to tour another recently opened facility at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City, the Qatar Biobank.
Mahmoud Al Raisi, HMC’s Chief of Continuing Care Group said the visit and tour was a positive signal from the government of the development work that HMC is conducting.
“HMC is proud of the expansion at the Enaya Specialized Care Center, which has almost doubled in bed capacity and established a modern and comfortable healing environment for long-term patients. This ministerial visit has presented us with an opportunity to showcase how HMC is reaching new levels of care for the people of Qatar,” said Al Raisi.
Operating as an 80-bed facility, the Enaya Specialized Care Center has now increased capacity to 156 inpatient beds with extra beds available in three isolation units. Modern patient rooms come with personal TV screens, a local landline, smart lighting systems, and state-of-the-art beds. Amenities include activity rooms, male and female gyms, therapy rooms, a sensory stimulation room, hair salon, laundry, and a portable x-ray machine.
A connecting bridge between the two buildings is a standout feature of the updated facility, which in 2014 won Best Hospital Design and Best Healing Environment awards at the Hospital Build & Infrastructure Middle East Awards held in Dubai. The Enaya Specialized Care Center also won a Community and Culture Project award at Cityscape Qatar.
Refurbishment work included incorporating an adjacent building into the renovation project, as well as modernizing all the interiors, updating equipment and adding improved patient services and healing environments throughout the complex. The new, larger facility is part of a wider expansion program currently underway across HMC.
