This role involves leadership of the range of medical educational and staff development activities of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Women’s Hospital. The educational and staff development programmes include:
- The Undergraduate Medical Student programme of the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (www.qatar-weill.cornell.edu)
- The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Postgraduate Training Programme affiliated to the Arab Board of Health Specializations (www.arab-board.org/en)
- Departmental Post-Residency Training Fellowship Programmes under the auspices of the HMC Medical Education Department (http://site.hmc.org.qa/cme/)
- The Departmental Continuing Education activities.
The Department seeks to promote personal development opportunities for staff in obstetrics and gynaecology potentially spanning the range of specialty interests. The role will include facilitating these development opportunities through building appropriate international linkages.
Vice-Chair for Education and Staff Development will have a key role in leading this initiative for obstetrics and gynaecology at Women’s Hospital and will contribute where appropriate on the same issues at the three partner secondary care hospitals. The Vice-Chair reports to, and works closely with, the Chair who is also Director of Women’s Services for HMC.
The Vice-Chair will have clinical specialty or subspecialty expertise within obstetrics and gynaecology. The clinical commitment of the post will be aligned to balance the clinical interests and the importance of having an adequate time allocation for this leadership role.
Job Description
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Oversight of Resident training and the ACGME accreditation process; receiving report from Resident Training Programme Director who leads this process
- Oversight of the Weill Cornell Medical College undergraduate medical student programme in obstetrics and gynaecology facilitating the roles of the Weill Cornell academic staff who lead the programme
- Stimulation, development and support Fellowship Programme development with the appropriate potential leads.
- Stimulation and coordination of personal development activities for Consultants and Specialists
- Oversight and support of educational meetings
- Coordination of staff evaluation process with Chair and CD-COA
- Where appropriate have oversight of education and staff development activities at the three HMC secondary care hospitals in cooperation with the relevant Assistant Chairs
- Contribute to strategic HMC Corporate Educational initiatives as requested
- Collaboration with the Educational Lead at Sidra.
