Hamad Medical Corporation Women’s Service
 
The Women’s Service provides obstetric and gynaecological care from four hospital sites.  These are the Women’s Hospital in Doha; Al Wakra Hospital; Al Khor Hospital and the Cuban Hospital.  The HMC Women’s Health and Newborn Health Network encompasses all these services with all sites providing secondary care services and the Women’s Hospital as the
tertiary care hub.  In 2013 the Network cared for 20,000 deliveries of which 17,000 were at the Women’s Hospital which is one of the busiest obstetrics services internationally. 
 
The 242 bed Women’s Hospital is the main specialist centre for obstetrics and gynaecology in Qatar providing a full range of both secondary and tertiary care services for women. There is also an 80 cot level III neonatal intensive care unit. The Women’s Hospital has Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. It has a direct connection to the adjacent Hamad General Hospital. Similarly each of the other three secondary care units are on general hospital sites. 
 
The Outpatient department in the Women’s Hospital provides highly specialised care for women and infants. The outpatient clinic offers services for women of all nationalities and handles approximately 10,000 patients per month.

In keeping with other services in HMC the obstetrics and gynaecology department is embarked on an exciting phase of transition which includes the introduction of the Cerner electronic medical record; Consultant revalidation, appraisal and job planning, a national health insurance system; a Quality Improvement Initiative supported by the Institute for Health Improvement (IHI); the development of the Academic Health System (AHS) and within two years the transfer of the service to a new Women’s Hospital. Service development and transformation is also supported additionally by Partners International, the Boston healthcare consortium. 
 
The Director of Women's Services is responsible for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service across HMC and Chairs the Women's and Newborn Health Network.  The Director is also Chair of the Women's Hospital Department. The obstetrics and gynaecology staff, organized in 5 clinical teams, includes 35 Consultants and more than 50 Specialists as well as training grade Residents.  The Departmental structure that supports this substantial clinical service and developmental programme includes clinical leadership roles that address complementary aspects of the Department’s agenda.   ​
