The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) successfully hosted the 1st Qatar Conference on Laboratory Medicine and Pathology from 30 October to 1 November at the Andaz Hotel, Doha.

This landmark event brought together over 550 professionals from both the public and private sectors - marking the first national gathering of its kind and scale dedicated to advancing the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine in Qatar.

Over three days, participants attended more than 45 sessions covering a broad range of topics, including precision diagnostics, molecular testing, artificial intelligence in healthcare, ethical practice, and patient-centered approaches to diagnostic medicine. The rich scientific program featured international, regional, and national experts, including speakers from the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath, UK), the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS, UK), and the Association for Laboratory Medicine (ALM, UK).

In her opening remarks, Dr. Einas Al Kuwari, Chair of Clinical Services, DLMP and Conference President, highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it provided “a unique platform for learning, professional networking, and collaboration across all disciplines of laboratory medicine and pathology.”

The conference was organized under the leadership of Co-Chairs Dr. Hawabibee Petkar and Dr. Syed Hasan Rizvi, who expressed their appreciation for the strong institutional support and the enthusiastic participation of both speakers and delegates, which made the event a great success.

The meeting began with three fully subscribed, full-day workshops delivered by international professional organizations, focusing on:

    • Patient-Centered Testing in Diagnostics
    • Risk Management in Laboratories Using ISO 22367:2020
    • Quality Improvement for Value-Based Pathology
In addition to plenary and keynote lectures, the conference featured three parallel scientific streams, offering cutting-edge updates from experts in the field. The event also hosted oral and poster presentations, which received an overwhelming response from local and regional researchers. These sessions provided a valuable platform for showcasing innovative research and scholarly work to an international audience and judging panel.

The conference was further supported by industry sponsors, whose displays and demonstrations of advanced diagnostic technologies provided participants with valuable insights into the latest developments in laboratory testing and automation.

The success of this inaugural conference underscores HMC’s commitment to advancing diagnostic excellence, fostering professional collaboration, and enhancing the quality of patient care in Qatar and the region.
