Welcome to the inaugural issue of the HMC Children’s Services magazine, ‘Children First’. With this quarterly magazine we will inform you of the new and latest developments in relation to clinical programs, research and education within pediatric services across HMC.
Over the past few years, many new members have joined our team and we have expanded our clinical programs in several areas. We are now one of the largest departments in HMC with over 200 consultants and specialists covering different pediatric specialties. In addition, we have a very active and successful residency program with over 40 residents.
The partnership with The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto is a milestone in our history as a department and in this issue you will find many highlights that showcase the partnership. Dr. Abdulla Al Kaabi and Ms. Geraldine Johnston recently returned from the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. The purpose of their visit was to present all the accomplishments of the partnership at the end of it's second year, to the CEO, vice presidents and senior managers.
Dr. Al Kaabi was presented with an Honorary SickKids Alumni Award by Ms. Mary Jo Haddad, CEO of SickKids Hospital, in recognition of his leadership, passion and commitment to improving the health of children and families in Qatar. This is a well deserved award and I would like to congratulate Dr. Al Kaabi on this achievement.
