Pediatric Pain Awareness Month
The Pediatric Pain Awareness Month will take place throughout the month of November, and will involve a variety of educational activities to enhance both knowledge and practice in pediatric pain assessment and management, whilst educating patients and families on the importance of understanding and communicating pain. Education workshops will be held throughout the month, targeting pediatric staff at HMC, culminating with the 1st Pediatric Pain Awareness Symposium, which will be held at Hajar Auditorium on Thursday, 29 November, 2012.
1st Pediatric Education Forum
The 1st Pediatric Education Forum, supported by HE Dr. Ghalia Al Thani, will commence on 4 December, 2012 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. On 5 December 2012, the forum will be held at Sidra Medical and Research Center. The forum provides a platform, for those involved in the education and training of pediatric healthcare professionals in Qatar, to collaborate and construct a united vision of a multi-disciplinary educational structure aimed at promoting educational scholarship and research in line with the Academic Healthcare System Initiative. Educational leaders from several reputable organizations in Qatar and Canada will be present at this event, including Sidra Medical and Research Center, Hamad Medical Corporation, Weill Cornell Medical College, University of Calgary-Qatar, College of the North Atlantic-Qatar, Qatar University, and The Hospital for Sick Children-Toronto.
2nd Child Health Research National Strategy Workshop
The event, which will take place on 4 December 2012, is a follow-up to the 1st Child Health Research National Strategy Workshop that was held in December 2011. The workshop will focus on genetics/genomics of congenital and complex diseases, which is one of the priority areas identified by last years’ workshop.
2nd Child and Adolescent Mental Health Stakeholders’ Workshop
This event will be a joint effort put forth by the National Mental Health Strategy and HMC/SKI Partnership, which will take place in the Wyndham Grand Regency on 12 December 2012. It is an opportunity for the many organizations in Doha, which provide mental health services to children and adolescent, to come together and reflect on the achievements and progress made during the past year. The attendees will also collaborate to determine the priorities and areas of focus for the coming year. They will collaborate to develop an action plan and discuss how to mitigate obstacles towards building a more cohesive and collaborative framework of services, thereby, providing enhanced clinical care and practice to pediatric patients.
3rd Annual Child Health Research Day
The 3rd Annual Child Health Research Day, which will take place in March 2013, aims to highlight accomplishments relevant to the developing child health research needs in Qatar, through the joint vision of HMC-SKI investigators of building research capacity for pediatrics. The structure and agenda of the event is built around the theme, 'Celebrating Collaborative Research'. It will be an all-day event with free registration for all attendees, sponsored by HMC Medical Research Centre. The Scientific Retreat Program was intended for an inter-disciplinary audience from SickKids, HMC and all academic healthcare institutions across Qatar. The day will feature three guest lecturers, one from The Hospital for Sick Children and two from HMC. There will be eight selected podium presentations, which were profiled at the Scientific Retreat Program. In addition, there will be poster presentations prepared by investigators and research teams from HMC.
