Care from the heart, starts with clean hands’ was the slogan from the winning poster produced by Pediatric Ward 2S1 who entered into the Hand Hygiene Competition.
The Infection Control Department at Hamad General Hospital organized a week-long Hand Hygiene Awareness week in July 2013 that incorporated collaboration from both pediatric patients and nursing staff.
The input from the Pediatric Units at HGH was overwhelming and all units produced eye-catching and educational posters and other marketing material in order to raise awareness around the importance of cleaning your hands whilst on the wards.
One very creative entry came from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) who produced a short film of the multi-disciplinary team washing their hands in the correct manner to encourage everyone to follow by example.
Medical Units throughout HGH submitted posters to be entered into the competition, and it seems the pediatric units came out on top winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for their creative submissions.

Infection Control Practitioner, Rekha Shepherd said, "On behalf of my fellow infection control practitioners and quality and patient safety coordinators, we appreciate the active participation we received from the Pediatric Department and would like to thank them for their dedication to raising awareness of the importance of hand hygiene."
