People may have psoriasis because it is in their family genes
Psoriasis is proven to run in families; it is hereditary. If someone in your biological family has psoriasis then you are at a much higher risk of developing it but this does not mean that psoriasis is inevitable. If one parent has psoriasis then their children has a 10 to 25 percent chance of developing psoriasis at some stage in their life. The precise cause of psoriasis is not determined, but it is believed that a combination of genes results in some people being more susceptible to it than others.

Can I do anything to minimize the risk of my children developing psoriasis?
As a condition with a hereditary element, there is nothing that can prevent the gene being passed on to your child. However, some research suggests that guiding your child into a healthy lifestyle which incorporates healthy eating, exercise and avoiding other triggering factors can reduce the likelihood that psoriasis will trigger.
