HMC has received funding from the Qatar National Research Fund to undertake world-class research and program development in the following areas: - Metabolic changes in diabetes
- Diabetes Treatment – Comparison of Options
- Establishment of Metabolic Research Unit at HMC
- Body worn sensor technology for improving diabetic care during activity of daily living
- System approach toward diabetes research using molecular profiling tools
- Collection of blood for gene expression/genomic studies in individuals with diabetes
- Efficacy of durability of GLP-1/Thiazolidinedione versus Basal-Bolus insulin therapy of poorly controlled T2DM patients
HMC will also be collaborating with Duke University to study genetic factors in diabetes as well as assessments of pharmacological treatments. Additionally, HMC is currently conducting, in collaboration with Texas University, a three-year scientific comparative research study on a group of Arab and American nationals to track the liability of diabetes infection and its causes in each group.
