Most of these chronic cases happen without a known cause. When nothing seems to be causing the hives or angioedema, it is called idiopathic. The lab tests usually show that everything is alright. Chronic urticaria and idiopathic angioedema do not need a contact with an allergen for them to happen – they just do.
