Maria Smatti

Dr. Maria Smatti is a Senior Research Assistant in Virology and Infectious Diseases at Qatar University Biomedical Research Center (QU-BRC). She earned her BSc and MSc degrees in Biomedical Sciences from Qatar University, followed by a PhD in Genomics and Precision Medicine from Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) in 2023. As a dedicated member of the virology and infectious diseases group led by Dr. Hadi Yassine at the BRC, Maria actively contributes to various research projects in virology and immunology. She has published over 40 research articles and received several awards including the “Young Investigator Award" from the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). Presently, her primary focus revolves around investigating the host genetic susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 and other viral infections in the Qatari population.
