
Dr. Peter Valentine Coyle (Qatar)
Dr. Coyle joined HMC in March 2017 as a senior consultant and head of virology, developing a strong clinical interface with colleagues in hospital and community settings, academic departments and Ministry of Public Health.
Qualified in medicine and trained in microbiology & virology in Belfast and Atlanta. He was admitted as a Fellow of the College of Pathologists (London) and completed a Doctoral Thesis at Queens University Belfast and appointed consultant clinical virologist in Belfast.
Dr. Coyle holds honorary post of Professor of Microbiology with the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine, QUB and Adjunct Professorship in the Biomedical Research Center of Qatar University. Provided operational input to HMC and MOPH advisory committees during the COVID-19 pandemic and was a member of the WHO MPOX TTP Advisory Panel established after the emergence of MPOX in 2022.
He chairs the hospital DLMP Research Committee and currently completing an applied research study on the use of prototypic 16S whole genome sequencing for the diagnosis of hospital and community acquired pneumonia. Has published >214 Pubmed cited papers, co-authoring >30 papers during the pandemic in Qatar and lead author on three other papers.
Dr. Coyle is currently a Senior Board Editor for the Journal of Medical Microbiology.
