Introduction: PMH has been identified as a key work stream in delivering Qatar's National Health Strategy 2018-2022. This represents a unique opportunity to stimulate dialogue, innovation and strategic planning between key stakeholders in psychiatry, obstetrics, pediatrics and primary care to produce the best outcomes for women, infants and families. This workshop will focus on the postpartum period, focusing on care provided following discharge from maternity services for high prevalence (non-psychotic) PMH disorders.

Objectives/Aims: Provide an update regarding the current evidence base for the detection and management of postpartum perinatal and infant mental health difficulties.
  • Increase awareness of current postpartum screening and PMH service delivery in Qatar and to consider strengths, challenges and opportunities for enhancement of care and clinically informed research.
The workshop will be concluded with a summary of key points from presentations and feedback from small groups and larger discussions. Participants will be encouraged to consider how they might build their own practice and encourage further development within their services to provide evidence based, culturally informed postpartum PMH care.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  1. Give examples of evidence based screening tools utilized for postpartum screening.
  2. Discuss cultural considerations that need to be considered in providing postpartum PMH screening in Qatar.
  3. Apply an understanding of evidence based pharmacological and psychological treatments for postpartum perinatal anxiety and depressive disorders to provision of patient care.
  4. Identify mother-infant relationships difficulties that may require further assessment or support.
