Qatar Reaching Out for Organ Transplantation Self-Sufficiency

Under the patronage of Ministry of Public Health, and fulfilling the mission of the Doha International Academy for Organ Donation, H.E. Dr. Hanan Alkuwari announced the proposal for the Qatar ROOTS program and the Academy’s plan to gather the world leaders on organ transplantation together with their peers from developing countries to raise awareness on ethical organ donation, fight effectively commercial transplantation and enable each country to establish deceased donation programs. ROOTS will focus in particular on engaging communities that are connected to Qatar through the expatriate populations such as India, Sudan, the Philippines, Oman, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. Qatar ROOTS alliance and expansion of Academy activities are developed aligned with the WHO Guiding Principles for transplantation and the Declaration of Istanbul on Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism.
