
Mirela Bušić, MD
Mirela Bušić, MD, specialist in epidemiology, was appointed in 2003 as the National Transplant Coordinator of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia. In her role of the National Transplant Coordinator she has provided sustained leadership in development of deceased organ donation in Croatia and has coordinated national efforts and preparedness for Eurotransplant membership. Croatia has successfully joined Eurotransplant in 2007 and boosted its organ donation and transplantation rates (40 actual deceased donors per million population in 2015). For her outstanding achievements she has been awarded by the Eurotransplant International Foundation.
In 2011 she was appointed as the Head of the Regional Centre (SEEHN RHDC) designed to promote and assist development of organ donation and transplant medicine in the South-east European countries.
She has been awarded in 2012 by the Transplantation Society for her great contribution in development of deceased organ donation program in developing countries.
She is a member of the Doha International Academy of Organ Donation and member of the Declaration of Istanbul Custodian Group.
