Michael Grasso, MD
Dr. Michael Grasso III is an internationally renowned cancer surgeon, urologic surgeon, and urologist who has pioneered minimally-invasive surgical techniques commonly employed to treat kidney cancer and other tumors, as well as other complex conditions of the urinary tract. Over the last 25 years he has both designed and employed clinically tiny fiber-optic and digital endoscopes, 2mm in diameter, treating thru the natural passages without an incision the most complex disorders of the upper urinary tract. He has also designed some of the most innovative laparoscopic treatments available, focusing on techniques that both treat disease yet also minimize trauma, preserve, when possible, organs, and shorten hospital stays.
Based at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Dr. Grasso is frequently sought out for consultation by specialists worldwide on complex diseases of the urinary tract. His research has been published in leading American and international scientific journals (over 100 peer review articles, 54 textbook chapters, and two textbooks). He has received numerous awards for his clinical work, including being named one of New York Magazine’s peer-selected “Best Doctors” 13 times over the past 15 years.
In addition to maintaining his surgical practice at Lenox Hill, as of February 1 of this year, he will also be seeing patients at a new site in Westchester at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, NY, a recent affiliate of the North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health System. Dr Grasso is also director of the living related kidney transplant program at Westchester Medical Center, in Valhalla, NY.
