There are over 50 million surgeries each year in the US alone. The
majority of surgeries run smoothly with no harm occurring to the
patient. However, given the scope, even the small percentage of
surgeries with complications, delays, cancellations, and harm can have a
huge impact on the patient and the hospital. When organizations use a
reliable system that incorporates best practices during all phases of
the surgical process: pre-operative, peri-operative, and
post-operative—these negative outcomes can be dramatically reduced if
not eliminated entirely. Expert faculty will provide best practices and
real-world examples that can be adapted and installed at your hospital
to reduce harm, while improving patient experience, as well as the
efficiency and flow of your surgical units.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify specific opportunities to improve safety and reliability during the patient’s surgical experience
- Improve reliability of key processes identified during each step of the surgical process
- Describe strategies to identify failures during the surgical process
