Ala-Eddin Al Moustafa gained his B.Sc. from Aleppo University (Aleppo-Syria) and his Masters and PhD in Developmental Biology (in the field of Oncogenes in the embryo) from the Institute of Embryology of the CNRS and Collège de France, and Paris XIII University (Paris-France). Afterwards, he completed his training as a postdoctoral fellow at McGill University (Montreal-Canada).
He was then appointed as a project director and an assistant professor at the Lady Davis Institute and the Oncology Department of McGill University, respectively.
Dr. Al Moustafa, in collaboration with his colleagues from Aleppo University, also established the first Cancer Research Center in Aleppo-Syria within the Syrian Society Against Cancer in September 2009, where he was appointed the Director of the Center. He also founded the Middle-Eastern Association for Cancer Research and its journal, the Clinical Cancer Investigation Journal (CCIJ).
Dr. Al Moustafa has published more than eighty papers in international journals and book chapters. His main research focuses on the roles of several Oncogenes, gene cooperation and Onco-viruses, especially high-risk HPV and EBV in human carcinogenesis and metastasis. He is also interested in exploring the roles of EGF-receptor members in the progression of human cancer through their interactions with cell-cell adhesion proteins.
In May 2015, Dr. Al Moustafa joined the College of Medicine of Qatar University, as a Professor / Principal Investigator, where he established his cancer biology lab.
