Doha, 26 May 2013: Hamad Medical Corporation is delighted to congratulate Professor Lord Ara Darzi on his election as Fellow of the Royal Society in the United Kingdom. This honor recognizes Lord Darzi’s exceptional contribution to medical science. He joins an outstanding group of Fellows of the Royal Society, all international leaders in their field. Royal Society Fellows include the cosmologist Steven Hawkings, Tim Berners-Lee the inventor of the internet along with 80 Nobel Laureates. Lord Darzi is a member of the International Advisory Board for the Academic Health System in Qatar; this Board comprises health and academic leaders from recognized and established world-class academic health systems. In addition to his role as international advisor, Lord Darzi is co-chair of the Primary Care Strategy Steering Group and Board Member of the Supreme Council of Health.

Fellows and Foreign Members are elected for life through a peer review process on the basis of excellence in science.
