Research highlights/programs

As the major women’s healthcare provider in Qatar, both Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Women’s Wellness & Research Center (WWRC) have a leading role in the national healthcare strategy. A key element to this, is the development of an environment which facilitates the undertaking of quality research and enables the translation of that research into healthcare solutions that improve the health and wellbeing of our patients and their families.

The aims of the WWRC 5 Year Research Strategy (2021-2026) were closely aligned with HMC’s vision and mission, the National Health Strategy (NHS) 2018-2022 and Qatar’s National Vision (QNV) 2030 with the aim of continuously striving to advance the research capability in women’s health in Qatar.

  • Develop a research culture and infrastructure within WWRC
  • Establish a model of financial independence for the WWRC Research Centre
  • Development of research capacity and capability
  • Develop a portfolio of research to fulfill the mission objectives
  • Changing the culture of research
  • Development of research fellowships
  • Establish academic stakeholder partners

The OBGYN residency program, in collaboration with the WWRC research department, has devised a structured research framework to guide residents in completing research projects during their residency program. This framework outlines clear phases for residents to follow throughout their training.

In their first year (PGY 1), residents are expected to successfully complete a Basic Research Methodology course and they will enroll in CITI online courses. In the second year (PGY 2), they present a journal club in the departmental meeting. Moving to the third year (PGY 3), residents are required to register their research and present it to the WWRC Research Committee for evaluation. As residents progress to their fourth year (PGY 4), they will continue to participate in journal club meetings and present their research findings either orally or through poster presentations. Finally, in their fifth and final year (PGY 5), residents should submit their research to the Arab Board.

In addition to this structured framework, residents are encouraged to approach the research department with their own research topics of interest. Currently, all our residents are actively engaged in various research projects within different teams and units, fostering a rich and diverse research environment within the program.
