Program Overview


Rheumatology fellowship program at Hamad Medical Center is a 3-year ACGME-I-accredited program. It is a strong training program through which our trainees gain clinical experience and participate in clinical research.

The mission of our rheumatology training program is to train fellows to be competent practitioners and consultants who will provide expert medical care for patients with rheumatic disorders; to encourage their professional development and scholarly pursuits that ensure they remain up-to-date in the field of rheumatology throughout their careers; and to bring up their interest in contributing to future advancement of the field.

We believe that our faulty members are very committed in providing excellent training to help our future rheumatologists to serve the community. Our faculty members follow the “lead by example” philosophy.

Our program allows trainees to gain a unique experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. We in rheumatology department adopt Hamad Medical Corporation mission in Health, Education and Research. 

Our graduates have proven to be clinically confident and well respected; they provide a high standard and compassionate care to the community.

Goals and Objectives

  • Clinical Competence: It is essential for all fellows in our Rheumatology section to develop up-to-date clinical skills during the fellowship training.
  • Ability to work with a variety of medical professionals in a variety of settings, including multidisciplinary teams.
  • Continuing Education: Adopting the habits of being a life-long learner
  • Academic Excellence: To build an academic approach to medical care and research in our fellows.

Clinical Training and Key Rotations


The program consists of 13 blocks per academic year, each lasts for 28 days:

  • First Year: 13 General Rheumatology Blocks
  • Second Year: 8 General Rheumatology Blocks, 3 Rheumatology Subspeciality Blocks, 1 Rheumatology MSK US block, 1 elective block.
  • Third Year: 4 General Rheumatology Blocks, 3 Rheumatology Subspeciality Blocks, 4 Rheumatology MSK US blocks, 1 Sport Medicine Block, 1 Pediatric Rheumatology Block.

Fellows will rotate through inpatient service each is 1 week block and during their call week they will be attending their own clinic only

The following electives are currently available: Rehab (QRI), Radiology (HGH), Immunology (HGH), Orthopedics (HGH)

Vacation time can be taken at any block/blocks outside the on-call week
