About Us

The School Rehabilitation Services program is a program based in the Roaa’ Center for Evaluation and Consultation (part of the Ministry of Education) for the provision of clinical and evaluative services for students with disabilities. The program provides seamless efficient service to enable all students with disabilities to participate in education alongside their non-disabled peers to the maximum extent appropriate.
 
The program provides student-centered and coordinated services for students with disabilities in the school system through delivery of integrated high quality evaluation, consultation services. It also seeks to enable inclusion in schools through provision of comprehensive student-centered high quality clinical/evaluative services for students with disabilities in the school system.

Our Services

The School Services Program will provide comprehensive clinical/evaluative services to students with disabilities including:
  • Provide medical diagnosis and detailed assessment to students who are unknown to the Child Development and Rehabilitation Services to support inclusion whenever necessary.
  • Comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluation of student’s functional / performance abilities (occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and language therapy, special education, educational psychology etc.) in order to support their education .
  • Screening and early identification functional and learning limitations for preschoolers
  • Comprehensive Behavior Assessment 
  • Trans-disciplinary collaborative consultation and follow-up services (consultation to the student's general education teacher)
  • Evaluation services to facilitate smooth transitions (preschool, elementary, middle school, high school and post-secondary).
  • Specific Referrals for specific disciplines in HMC will be generated if the student needs a service that is not available in school or in need for assistive devices or further diagnostic tests.

Who We Evaluate

The School Services program is available to students with disabilities (physical, cognitive, communication, social-emotional, and/or adaptive) who: 
  • Are enrolled in independent schools
  • Are in the preschool system
  • Are transitioning into the school system

Referral to the Program

The program accepts written request for evaluation - this is initiated by the school and forwarded to the HMC team through Roaa’ Center
 
What Will Happen After The Referral?
  • The student will be booked for an evaluation appointment and will be called and informed about the appointment time and location.
  • The student may be booked to see a physician before meeting other team members if the child is not known to HMC or if the last visit to HMC was more than 12 months ago.
  • The student will undergo a detailed Interdisciplinary team evaluation that includes history taking (health and educational history) in addition to assessment of current abilities and challenges.
  • A comprehensive evaluation report that includes all the findings and team recommendation will be generated and forwarded to the Support educational needs team at the Roaa’ Center
  • After which family will be contacted by the Educational Needs Support team at the Roaa’ Center for a meeting to plan next steps.
