The National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) has a multi-disciplinary, well-equipped and comprehensive laboratory. The department conducts and processes a wide range of tests and analyses, ensuring teams within the hospital have access to all the relevant information required to make diagnoses and monitor patient progress while patients undergo therapy.

The department consists of a committed team of skilled pathologists and medical technologists/technicians, with expertise in the use of sophisticated laboratory equipment. The lab receives and processes approximately 7,000 patient specimens per month.

The laboratory has state-of-the-art testing facilities where samples are processed on behalf of medical departments in NCCCR, Rumailah Hospital and Heart Hospital. Point of Care Testing, which is testing at or near the site of patient care, is available at NCCCR and Heart Hospital wards and clinics. Our pathologists provide consultative services to other physicians regarding diagnostic tests and the interpretation of results.
Our primary aim as a laboratory is to provide timely, accurate and appropriate pathology services in support of patient care.

We as a clinical laboratory offer the following services:
  • Specimen procurement (e.g. obtaining samples from patients)
  • Chemistry
  • Hematology (blood tests)
  • Coagulation (blood clotting tests)
  • Flow cytometry (uses laser beams to analyze biological material)
